Participation conditions · III Circular Innovation Hackathon
1. Purpose of the competition
La III Circular Innovation Hackathon is a 24-hour intensive innovation competition, aimed at students of Balearic Professional Training.
This is an initiative of IMPULSA BALEARS, deployed in the framework of reN · Balear Circular Hub and organized jointly with the Center for Training, Innovation and Development of Vocational Training (CFINFP), with the aim of connecting the talent of PT students with real challenges posed by companies committed to the circular transition of Balearic Islands.
This third edition will have the participation of 6 companies, each of which will pose 1 real circular challenge. In total, participants will work on 6 challenges related to the priority action areas of the Roadmap for the transition towards a circular tourism system in the Balearic Islands. Horizon 2025–2035.
During the competition, participating teams will develop creative, viable and applicable solutions that contribute to progress towards a circular tourism system.
2. Participants
The competition is open to students over 18 years of age who are currently enrolled in a Professional Training program at public and state-subsidized schools in the Balearic Islands.
The profile of participants is based on students who are able to work in a team, generate creative ideas and develop solutions from different fields: digital technologies, data analysis and visualization, communication, marketing, design, sustainability, business feasibility or technical application.
Participants must register individually. The organization will form the work teams, which will preferably be composed of 5 participants.
3. Positions and selection process
The competition will have up to 150 seats, distributed in 30 work teams.
The selection of participants will be made by CFINFP, according to the following criteria:
- adequacy of profiles to the challenges;
- diversity of training cycles;
- geographical diversity;
- representation of different educational institutions;
- balance of competencies within teams;
- motivation and interest in circular innovation.
Selected students will receive the confirmation of participation via the email indicated on the registration form.
4. Prior accompaniment
4.a Before the competition
The organization will offer two information sessions and open consultation spaces so that participants can better understand the dynamics of the competition, resolve doubts and prepare properly.
This support will include:
- information on how the hackathon works;
- general explanation of the circular areas to be worked on;
- guidance on teamwork and developing solutions;
- recommendations for preparing the final pitch;
- resolution of practical doubts.
4.b During the competition
The organization will provide support to participants through three mentors for each of the challenges raised. These mentors will be Professional Teachers who have received specific training and experience in this type of competition.

5. How the competition works
The 6 participating companies will be responsible for defining the 6 circular challenges on which the teams will work.
Each company will raise a challenge linked to needs, opportunities or real challenges related to the circular transition of the Balearic Islands.
Each challenge will be related to one of the 6 priority action areas of the Roadmap for the transition towards a circular tourism system in the Balearic Islands. Horizon 2025–2035:
- Water
- Energy
- Materials
- Food
- Mobility
Territory-Sea
Each team should develop a proposal that explains:
- what solution does he propose;
- to whom it is addressed;
- how it could be implemented;
- which resources, tools or partnerships would be needed;
- what environmental, social or economic impact it could generate.
At the end of the competition, teams will present their solution to a jury.

The organisation may make adjustments to the program to ensure that the competition runs smoothly.
7. Assessment criteria
The jury will evaluate proposals according to the following criteria:

It will be especially appreciated that the solutions are understandable, original, realistic and connected with the challenge posed by the company.
The decision of the jury shall be final.
8. Awards
The competition will recognize the best solutions presented for each of the 6 challenges.
There will be 6 prizes, one for each challenge, destined to the 6 winning teams.
Each winning team will receive:
- a cash prize, valued at 1,000 euros;
- a qualifying diploma as the winning team;
- and support in the dissemination of their solution through the channels of the competition and the participating companies.
9. Rules for participation
Participation in the competition is free.
All participants must individually fill out the registration form.
The organization will form teams to ensure a balanced composition appropriate to the challenges.
- attend the planned activities;
- actively participate in the team’s work;
- respect the schedules and indications of the organization;
- make proper use of available spaces, materials and resources;
- present an original proposal;
- respect the other participants, mentors, companies and members of the organization.
10. Use of digital tools, data and artificial intelligence
Teams will be able to use digital tools, data analysis applications, design tools, communication, marketing and artificial intelligence to develop their proposals.
The use of these tools must be responsible and always respect:
- the current regulations;
- intellectual property rights;
- the license terms of the software used;
- protection of personal data;
- the originality of the proposal presented.
The data sets used must be freely available to the public or have the necessary permits for their use.
The team should be able to clearly explain how it developed its proposal and what tools it used.
11. Intellectual property
The solutions developed by the participating teams in response to each of the challenges will become the property of the company that posed the corresponding challenge, without prejudice to the recognition of the authorship of the participating team within the framework of the competition.
This assignment will allow the company to analyze, develop, adapt, implement or scale the solution, in whole or in part, without the need for subsequent authorization from the participants.
Participation in the hackathon implies express acceptance of this assignment of rights over the submitted solutions.
The solutions presented must be original and may not infringe rights of intellectual property, industrial, image or any other nature pertaining to third parties.
The organization and participating companies will be able to disseminate the presented solutions, as well as the name of the winning teams, in communication channels, social media, promotional materials and actions linked to the dissemination of the hackathon.
12. Accommodation, food and travel
The organization will facilitate the maintenance of participants during the development of the competition.
Accommodation will also be provided to participants, in accordance with the conditions established by the organization. The CFINFP will distribute participants in the corresponding rooms according to organizational criteria. Participants must respect the accommodation rules and make responsible use of the facilities.
To facilitate the participation of students from Menorca, Eivissa and Formentera, the organization will establish transport aids, according to the criteria and budget availability that are determined. Participants from Mallorca must travel by their own means.
13. Confidentiality, data protection and image rights
Participants must respect the confidentiality of information shared by companies, mentors and organization during the competition.
The personal data provided in the registration process will be used exclusively for the management of the competition and communication with participants, in accordance with current regulations on data protection.
During the event it will be possible to capture images, videos and audiovisual recordings for dissemination on communication channels, social media and promotional materials linked to the hackathon.
Registration in the competition will imply acceptance of these conditions, without prejudice to the rights that are due to the participants according to the applicable regulations.
14. Code of conduct
The III Circular Innovation Hackathon aims to ensure a safe, respectful, inclusive and learning-oriented environment.
Offensive, discriminatory, threatening, violent or interfering with the normal development of activity shall not be tolerated.
Participants undertake to:
- maintain a respectful attitude towards all participants;
- contribute to a positive and inclusive work environment;
- respect the opinions and contributions of other team members;
- follow the instructions of the organization;
- not interfere with the work of other teams;
- not to make improper use of spaces, materials or resources;
- do not consume alcohol or drugs during the competition;
- comply with the regulations of the accommodation and of the approved spaces;
- respect all applicable laws.
Failure to comply with the code of conduct may result in immediate expulsion from the competition and the inability to participate in future activities organized by IMPULSA BALEARS and the CFINFP.
In case of causing damage to the facilities, participants agree to assume any resulting expenses.
15. Acceptance of the bases
Registration in the III Circular Innovation Hackathon implies full acceptance of these participation bases.
The organization reserves the right to interpret these bases and resolve any unanticipated issues, always in accordance with the objectives of the competition and the principles of transparency, equality and smooth running of the event.
