III Circular Innovation Hackathon
Vocational education and training talent for the circular transition
It is an open innovation competition for vocational education and training students across the Balearic Islands, designed to connect their talent, creativity and technical skills with real-world challenges related to the archipelago’s circular transition.
This third edition, developed within reN · Balear Circular Hub, is jointly organised by IMPULSA BALEARS and the Regional Ministry of Education and Universities, through the Centre for Vocational Education and Training, Innovation and Development (CFINFP). It brings together, under a single initiative, the experience and track record of the Circular Innovation Hackathon and the Hackató InnovaFP .
During the competition, teams will work on concrete challenges put forward by companies from across the islands, guided by VET teaching staff acting as mentors and supported by professionals. The aim is to turn ideas into practical proposals with the potential to deliver positive impact.
Competition and awards
The III Circular Innovation Hackathon is an intensive 24-hour open innovation experience for vocational education and training students in the Balearic Islands. The competition invites participants to respond to 6 real challenges linked to the islands’ circular transition by developing creative, feasible and applicable solutions.
At the end of the hackathon, the 30 participating teams will pitch their proposals to a jury and receive a certificate of participation.
The jury will assess each proposal according to the criteria set out in the participation rules, with particular attention to its circular and territorial impact, level of innovation and creativity, feasibility and applicability, technical quality, use of tools, final presentation and teamwork.
The best team for each challenge will receive an award.

Students and mentor teachers
The III Circular Innovation Hackathon is an applied learning experience in which vocational education and training students and teachers take part in an intensive process of collaboration, creativity and challenge-solving.
Working in multidisciplinary teams, students draw on the knowledge and skills developed throughout their training to explore new approaches, test ideas and turn them into practical proposals.
VET teachers act as mentors throughout the process: they guide the teams, bridge knowledge and practice, and help ideas develop further, while ensuring that students remain in the lead.

Companies and challenges
The III Circular Innovation Hackathon connects vocational education and training talent with real-world circular transition challenges put forward by companies represented on the Board of Trustees of IMPULSA BALEARS.
Each of the six companies will set a challenge related to its own activity, giving teams the opportunity to work on it during the hackathon and develop responses with real potential for application.
The challenges will be framed around the six priority areas for action defined in the Roadmap towards a Circular Tourism System in the Balearic Islands. Horizon 2025–2035: water, energy, materials, food, mobility and land-sea.
In this way, the initiative connects companies, VET talent and the priorities of the Balearic Islands’ circular transition, turning the Roadmap into concrete challenges that can be acted upon.

The III Circular Innovation Hackathon will take place over two intensive working days. Participating teams will be introduced to the challenges set by companies, develop their proposals, receive guidance and feedback from mentors, and pitch their final solution to the jury.

If you are aged 18 or over and studying vocational education and training at a public or publicly funded school in the Balearic Islands, this is your opportunity to put your talent to the test.
You will take part in an intensive innovation experience, work in teams on real challenges set by companies from the archipelago, and develop a circular solution with the support of mentors and professionals.

Students aged 18 or over who are enrolled in vocational education and training in the Balearic Islands and are interested in taking part.
No. The challenges will be set by the participating companies and presented during the hackathon. From that point on, each team will develop its own proposal.
Yes. Each participant must complete the registration form individually. The final teams will be formed by the organisers, preferably with 5 participants per team.
Teams will work on 6 circular challenges set by 6 companies. Each challenge will be linked to one of the six priority areas of action defined in the circular Roadmap: water, energy, materials, food, mobility and land-sea territory.
Each team will develop a proposed solution to its assigned challenge. The proposal should explain what problem it addresses, how it works, who it is designed for, how it could be implemented and what positive impact it could generate.
Yes. Throughout the hackathon, teams will be supported by mentors and professionals, who will help them better understand the challenge, shape their proposal and prepare the final presentation.
Yes. Participation in the hackathon is free of charge.
The organisers will provide transport support for students coming from Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, according to the criteria and budget availability to be determined. Participants from Mallorca will need to travel to the venue by their own means.
The organisers will provide meals during the competition. Accommodation will also be provided according to the established conditions.
Yes. Teams may use digital tools, data, design, communication and marketing applications, as well as artificial intelligence, provided they do so responsibly and respect applicable regulations, licences and third-party rights. When a team uses artificial intelligence, it must state this in the final presentation or in the documentation submitted, briefly specifying which tools were used and for what purpose.
The solutions developed by the teams will become the property of the company that set the corresponding challenge, in accordance with the terms established in the participation rules.
